We have arrived once again at the greatest time of year. There is something incredibly special about the season of Fall, a time when the air is crisp, the colors are beautiful, and the scares begin. Halloween and the “Festival of Fear” have become an important part of RexandtheBeast.com. We have traveled from one side of the country to the other experiencing the best haunts and the best parks in the world. This year we are focusing our attention on the two most important Florida based Halloween Haunts known as Halloween Horror Nights at the Universal Orlando Resort and Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens in Tampa. Our trip date is set for October 24th – 28th.
Hallowen Horror Nights has decided to forgo the concept of an identifiable theme and icon this year, instead letting the houses speak for themselves and developing a new “street experience” that will alter the design of the beloved Scarezones. Rex and I have become increasingly concerned about the gradually increasing rise of “branding” or marketing the houses to specific corporate entities, such as Penn and Teller or The Walking Dead. Nevertheless, we will let the houses decide the fate of HHN 22.
Howl-O-Scream continues to be a solid rival to the success of HHN and remains one of the highlights of October. This year they have an identical theme to the 2011 season, “The Dark Sid of the Garden” and are returning, at least in a modified form, one of my favorite houses at any park in the country, the “Nightshade Toy Factory.”
We will be providing video, audio, and photo reviews of all our experiences in October. Keep it right here at rexandthebeast.com!
